Today I wanted to debunk the rumor that you can only land big press names like Forbes if you pay a feature fee.
This is not true.
The way my clients have landed in Forbes multiple times (I have one client who has been featured 5x now!) is by writing pitches that provide value for that specific outlet’s audience.
When you pitch yourself to be featured, do research on that outlets audience and know the demographics. Are you speaking to women? Are they millennials? Where are they located?
When you work with GBM pitches to have a section that says “Why this piece is a perfect fit for (insert outlet name)?” This is where we show that you know the audience and you are speaking directly to them. This is what makes my clients stand out and get featured in places like Forbes.
These writers get hundreds of pitches per day and when you show you are talking specifically to them, you will naturally stand out. This is exactly what I do to get my clients featured.
So many people who are hungry for a feature come in wanting to just talk about themselves. Stop it. It’s not about you!
Send your next podcast pitch or press pitch with that audience in mind!
DId you know you do not have to pay for these features? What else do you want answered about PR. I can’t wait to see you land your first feature.
